LEISA Concept Application (Low-External-Input and Sustainable Agriculture) to Agricultural Small Land in Order to Mitigate Climate Change in Crop Production

Climate change has many negative effects which may endanger agriculture crop production in small-land area that is most in Indonesia. Farming systems which combine ecological, social, and local culture is a reflection of the activities of integrated crop cultivation which would answer the future agriculture problem in climate change.

Sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture can be created in order to decrease the effect of climate change and gain its benefits for the farmer in the small-scale land with the application parameters LEISA (low-external-input and sustainable agriculture) concept, especially the adjustment of agricultural efforts with local knowledge, to maintain biodiversity, agro-ecosystem, and water availability.

The concept of LEISA is the framework of integrated agricultural activities that optimize the utilization of existing resources, economically viable, ecologically supportive and adapted to local culture so can be easily accepted and adopted by farmers so that the negative effects of climate change on agricultural small land crop production can be decreased.

There is need for extension for the implementation of the concept of LEISA applications more intensively, especially for agricultural commodities and regions that are sensitive to climate change. For more information about this LEISA Concept Aplication, please contact the author.
